More Than a School. A Place to Belong.
At St Stephen’s CE Primary School in Bradford, school life is about far more than lessons.
It is about belonging, discovering who you are, finding what you love and beginning to understand what you might become.
From a child’s first days in Nursery and Reception to their final year in Year 6, we want St Stephen’s to be a place filled with learning, friendship, opportunity, challenge and joy.
A place where every child is known.
A place where every child matters.
A place where every child can Nurture, Grow and Flourish.
Every Day Should Matter
Childhood is precious, and primary school should be memorable.
Alongside our ambitious, knowledge-rich curriculum, children at St Stephen’s experience sport, music, art, performances, educational visits, visitors, celebrations, clubs and opportunities to explore the world beyond the classroom.
We want children to discover new interests, develop talents they did not know they had and experience moments they will remember long after they leave us.
Reading Opens the World
Reading is at the heart of life at St Stephen’s.
Books introduce our children to extraordinary people, distant places, different lives and powerful ideas. Across school, we want children surrounded by stories, poetry, information and language.
We want every child to become a confident reader — but we also want them to experience the excitement of finding a book they simply cannot put down.
Because when a child becomes a reader, their world becomes bigger.
Inspiring People. Bigger Possibilities.
Children cannot aspire to something they have never encountered.
That is why our pupils learn about inspiring people from Bradford, Britain and across the world — writers, scientists, artists, musicians, explorers, inventors, mathematicians, campaigners and people who have changed how we understand our world.
Through our curriculum, visitors and wider school experiences, we encourage children to look beyond what they already know and think:
Could that be me?
Finding Your Voice
We want our children to know that their voice matters.
Throughout school life, children are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, explain their thinking and listen respectfully to others.
Our strong focus on oracy, vocabulary and communication helps children develop the confidence to speak, participate and contribute.
We want children to leave St Stephen’s able not only to think for themselves, but to express those thoughts with confidence.
Friendship, Faith and Community
As a Church of England primary school in Bradford, our Christian vision and values shape the way we live together.
Kindness, compassion, respect, forgiveness and responsibility are not simply words displayed around school. We want children to experience them through the relationships they build and the choices they make.
St Stephen’s is a diverse school community, and we celebrate the different languages, cultures, experiences and traditions our families bring.
We learn together. We celebrate together. We belong together.
Opportunities to Shine
Success looks different for every child.
For one child, it might be performing on a stage. For another, scoring their first goal, creating a piece of art, solving a difficult problem, speaking confidently in front of others or finally finishing a book independently.
Our primary school enrichment opportunities give children different ways to participate, contribute and succeed.
We want every child to experience that wonderful moment when they realise:
“I can do this.”
